Profile

Photo of Kim GrantKim Grant has distinguished herself as a nationally represented artist in a variety of mediums and styles.  Her refreshing and unique approach to art ranges from textural and geometric shapes, to color layering and beyond. Some of her more sophisticated pieces create the illusion of being metal, even though they were transformed from paper. Her recent work is actually created on metal pieces of various shapes and sizes. She has recently started to create on acrylic panels. Kim’s primary mediums are acrylics, watercolors, collage, and water media, though she has worked with a much broader variety of materials and styles, such as hand built clay sculptures,  fabric collage, and fused glass just to name a few. Her experiences have spanned a vast spectrum through the years. She designed her own line of hand painted clothing and designer fabrics, faux finished walls with murals and custom painted furniture.  She has many of her works in national publications and has written numerous articles for art magazines, she is also a published collaborative artist in numerous book publications. Kim’s artwork was juried by her peers and published in the book, BEST OF AMERICA Mixed Media Artists & Artisans. Kim has been an international instructor of mixed media teaching workshops in Guatemala, France, Thailand, and Vietnam.  Through these travels, and teaching experiences she has seen her art continuously evolve. Her formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree and art studies at the Atelier LeSueur School of Classical Realism. She is a member and juried artist of the International Society of Experimental Artists and International Society of Acrylic Painter’s. Kim’s work is shown in select galleries and collected worldwide. Her art can be found in numerous corporate and private collections.

In Kim’s own words: My motivation for art comes from my passion to create.  My inner drive to create wonderful art, feeds my soul.  Abstract painting is my favorite style to work in.  It allows me the freedom to work in color, texture, and layering.  There are no boundaries, creating is limitless. The world around me inspires my creations.  I love color, texture, shapes and how they relate to each other. While traveling and teaching internationally I am very inspired by other cultures, their way of life, food, clothing, traditions, art, papers, and language. After each trip, I bring home the local fabrics, papers, and their printed word to use in my collage pieces. I can see my art change, sometimes dramatically, after each travel adventure.   I love to share my knowledge of art with others. I have accomplished this through teaching workshops nationally and internationally for the past 20 years.  I have such a passion for art and I want others to get the same enjoyment out of it that I do.  Everyone can create art and I enjoy watching students develop the drive and passion for it also.  I am always studying and learning, taking workshops from other artists, reading, researching, and adding to my knowledge so I can share even more with my students and other artists.
